Monica Harrington
Monica Harrington was born in Sydney, Australia. After training with Halliday Dance Centre she moved to Perth to do a Diploma in Dance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. While in Perth, Monica was taught by some of Australia’s leading dancers including David Prudham and Lucette Aldous and performed many different pieces of choreography by both students and leading Australian choreographers. In 2001 Monica moved back to Sydney where she taught and choreographed for DanceMax and also choreographed for the International Poets Convention.
The next year Monica performed in the contemporary season of Bodies for Deborah Mills, in a controversial piece called The Pig Hunter. At the end of 2002 Monica moved to London where she spent the next six years performing with companies such as Vienna Festival Ballet (performing soloist roles in UK tours of Swan Lake, Coppelia, The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty), Ballet Ireland (Alice), project based contemporary company Anya Ison Wallace Dancers (Midlands tour) and UK and Ireland tours of The Johann Strauss Gala (for Raymond Gubbay). For the last three years Monica has taught for West London School of Dance, where she is involved in all aspects of the school from class work to choreography and rehearsal for the many WLSD productions. Monica is also one of the head teachers for The Kensington Ballet School, as well as a freelance teacher for numerous schools, including Flipside! Monica currently performs for project based company Diciembre Dance Group (director Lucia Piquero) and will be going to Spain this summer with the company to teach a choreographic workshop in Asturias.
Monica is looking forward to teaching the students of FSD.
